How to Exercise in the Winter – A Winter Workout You Need to Know About

In fact, most people become lethargic in the winter. The problem with the lack of physical activity in the winter, is that you end up gaining unwanted weight. If you want to remain in shape regardless of the season, you need to learn how to exercise in the winter. If you are a person that enjoys running outside, then you will have to condition yourself to doing indoor aerobic exercises in the winter.

A winter workout you need to know about

When it is cold outside, I prefer to exercise indoors. There are several winter exercises you can do, but one exercise particularly stands out. I call it treadmill interval cardio routine.

If you want to learn how to exercise in the winter, then you need to learn about indoor aerobic exercises. The treadmill interval cardio is a great winter workout you can do, when you have no interest in running outside in the cold weather. To perform the treadmill interval cardio routine, raise your treadmill’s incline level to 15. Pick up a pair of dumbbells, with a total weight of approximately ten to twenty percent of your body weight. For example, if you weigh 150 lbs, use two dumbbells of ten pounds each.

Step on the treadmill, and raise the speed to 3 miles per hour. Hold the dumbbells close to your body, with your arms stretched down vertically. Keep your body as straight as possible, and avoid leaning forward. Walk for 10 minutes straight, with no break. Make sure you breathe throughout the walk as much as possible. Feel free to exhale through the mouth.

Once the 10 minutes are over, put the dumbbells down, and increase the speed of the treadmill to 5 miles per hour. Do not modify the incline setting of the treadmill. Alternate between 30 seconds of running at 5 miles per hour, and 30 seconds of walking at 1 mile per hour. Continue with this interval cardio routine for 10 minutes.

After the 10 minutes are over, pick up the 10 pound dumbbells; reset the speed of the treadmill to 3 miles per hour, and walk for another 10 minutes.

If you combine this treadmill interval cardio routine with healthy diet, you should be able to lose a good amount of your love handles during the winter. There are many other effective treadmill exercises that you can do during the winter. Just make sure you bring your music device with you when you work out. Listening to songs while exercising, is an excellent way to stay motivated throughout your workout session.
