Basic Equipment Needed for Working Out at Home

There are all kinds of excuses for why people don’t exercise. They don’t have the money for a gym membership. They can’t seem to find the time. They simply don’t like doing it. But you know what? When it comes to the many benefits that come with working out, they far outweigh all of the reasons that people come up with not to. Exercise helps to keep our bones and joints in good condition, it’s great for our heart and lungs, it helps to strengthen our immune systems, and all of those reasons are merely the tip of the iceberg.

So if one of your top excuse relates to budget constraints and your inability to afford a prohibitive gym membership, then you should be happy to know the following: with only a few set of cheap equipment, you can be on your way to exercising at home, while pushing your body to the best physical condition it can be. So here are few basic workout equipment you will need for your home workout.


Some of the cheapest pieces of exercise equipment that you can get are dumbbells. They’re also some of the easiest to find because they’re available at stores like Target and Wal-Mart. The reason they’re so handy is that they’re not just small and portable, but when used on a consistent basis, dumbbells are great for working out the chest, arms and shoulders. Make sure you buy those dumbbells that come with adjustable weights, so that you can vary the resistance. If your dumbbell has only one fixed weight, you may run the risk of outgrowing it too quickly as you get stronger.

Balance Ball and Medicine Ball

Balance balls are great because they can be used for a wide variety of exercises regardless of your age or gender. Even if you’re pregnant (midwives and doulas think they’re an outstanding tool during labor and delivery!). By incorporating a balance ball into your workout routine, you will provide your body with core training while developing proper posture, flexibility and muscle strengthening. It’s also a great aid when it comes to rehabilitating your back and spine. A medicine ball weights on average about 8 lb. It’s a ball that you can hold in the palm of your hand (or at least two hands). You can use it to add extra resistance to your push-up and ab exercises. If you’re a beginner, you should settle for a medicine ball with a weight in the range of 2 to 6 lbs.

Iron Gym Pull Up Bar

Do you have some tigerwood decking outside? Outdoor workout is a wonderful way to get some fresh air while you exercise. For those of you who are relatively frugal, you can just settle for your outdoor tigerwood decking structure as your main pull up workout station.
