It is a simple fact of life that people get older and with age sometimes comes not so pretty skin aging side effects. The quest to looking younger doesn’t always have to mean a trip to the cosmetic surgeon, expensive skin treatments or buying the latest miracle product. Push comes to shove you may consider free samples or discounted anti-aging product offers from around the internet. However, there are a few simple things that can be done on a daily basis to promote a more youthful look and keep the aging process at bay, at least aesthetically.
Protect skin from the sun
Damage from the sun is the number one cause of wrinkles. While completely avoiding exposure to the sun is not a realistic nor healthy option, protecting skin from the sun’s harmful UV rays is. Be diligent and apply sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or above and also protect skin by covering it with clothing. Tanning beds should also be avoided, as they also promote wrinkles.
Avoid cigarette smoking
Smoking promotes wrinkles and gives skin a dull, dry and discolored look. It encourages the destruction of collagen. Collagen gives the skin its youthful appearance. Smoking also robs the body of valuable vitamins and nutrients. Avoid smoking at all costs, while you still can.
Consume a healthy diet
Healthy, youthful looking skin starts from the inside. A healthy diet should include plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables and whole grains. These are packed with antioxidants which help to repair and restore skin and other cells. A healthy diet should also include drinking plenty of water. Drink at least half your body weight in ounces of water a day, to ensure your skin stays hydrated from the inside. Alcohol consumption should also be limited since it dehydrates the skin.
Exercise and stay active
There are numerous benefits to exercising regularly. In addition to boosting energy levels, helping to maintain a healthy weight and keeping the body toned, exercise also increases blood circulation throughout the body. Increasing blood circulation to the skin improves the complexion by boosting the delivery of oxygen and nutrients to skin cells, thus promoting younger looking skin.
Get plenty of sleep
During sleep, hormones are released that support repair and renewal within the body’s cells. When the body does not receive adequate sleep, it cannot properly repair any damage that has been done. When this damage builds up, the body can feel tired and run down, and this can be reflected on the outside with a tired, run down and aged look. Sleep is also a time of rejuvenation, which can help one to not only look younger but feel younger as well.
Although aging cannot be avoided altogether, it can certainly be slowed and done gracefully. These anti-aging tips are more about lifestyle changes and of course the earlier in life they are started, the greater the return in the future.
