  • Skip Breakfast – If you eat before your appointment, your triglycerides will peak. When a cholesterol test is given, this peak could signify medication or an unhealthy diet.
  • Carb-load – Those needing a glucose tolerance test are often tempted to eliminate carbs altogether, but believe it or not, this can actually cause a spike in your blood sugar. You should eat healthy grains for three days prior. Carb-loading is something runners do a few days before a long race so their body will produce energy for a longer period of time. Carb-loading does not mean eating a pizza and other snacks the night before.
  • Breathe Deeply – Are you having a blood test? If you are like many others, there is a good chance your blood pressure raises just going to the doctor. Take five deep breaths before the test.

Although all these things will help you achieve better results for your health insurance comparison, they are not a replacement for changing your lifestyle. A proper diet, exercise and managing stress are all important to your long-term health.
