You are what you eat. Human bodies are most commonly acidic environments, based on the commonality of the average diet. For example, foods such as corn, olives, cheese, milk, butter, bacon, beef and fish all contribute to an acidic bodily environment. The acidic properties these types of foods have been scientifically proven to be factors in the development of health problems such as diabetes, high blood pressure, heart burn, digestive irregularity (i.e. constipation or diarrhea), poor blood circulation, and skin cell damage. This is not to say, however, that eating these foods is bad for you. In fact, many of the aforementioned foods have multiple health benefits. It is to say that the detriments of eating them ought to be counteracted, but how?
Convert your PH balance to Alkaline
Try and remember back in high school chemistry class, when you learned about the pH scale; they thought that a liquid is considered to be acidic when its PH was in the range of 0 to 6.99. At a pH of 7, a liquid (mostly water) is considered neutral. A pH greater than 7 is considered alkaline. Now, consider the fact that our bodies are made up of ~75% water, making it the most important liquid component in our body. So, by adding more alkaline to one’s diet, one can convert one’s pH balance from acidic to a more neutral or alkaline environment. The benefits of doing so are as simple as the prevention of the aforementioned health concerns of having an overly acidic based diet.
Bottled alkaline water and Oxygen Reduction Potential
Bottled alkaline water has two main properties that define the product itself: pH level, and Oxygen Reduction Potential (ORP). Scientifically speaking, the higher the level of pH, the lower the level of Oxygen Reduction Potential. The lower level of ORP, the lower the chances are of contaminants thriving in the specified environment. For example, when maintaining a pool, because the chlorine used to do so has such a high pH concentration level when dissolved in water, it is able to decontaminate the water. This is the idea behind alkaline water consumption, giving your body the chance to cleanse itself.
There are plenty of options that one has available in the way of bottled water these days. However, only roughly 3% of the bottled water industry is represented by alkaline water. This can be attributed to the early stages of research in understanding the health benefits associated with alkaline water.
NAL Water: PH 9.5 Alkaline Water
A great example of natural alkaline bottled water is NAL Water, which has a pH of 9.5. Basically NAL water works from the premise that most stomach ailments are the result of waste build up. So the alkaline water allows nutrients to be absorbed effectively, while flushing acid waste products from the body. In essence, NAL Water acts as an antioxidant, helps prevent common health issues such as diabetes and high blood pressure, and common stomach ailments such as diarrhea, constipation, loss of appetite, and heartburn.
