Aluminum has been correlated with cancerous cell development in the underarm/breast area as well as contribute to the onset of Alzheimer’s disease. People are becoming more and more aware of the hazards of aluminum in everyday items including, one of the most potent, their deodorant. Deodorant is used everyday and the absorption of high levels of aluminum into the skin, 15-25% in current deodorant/antiperspirants, can be extremely hazardous to the body.
Many breast cancers are stimulated to grow by the female sex hormones estrogen and progesterone. Scientists have suggested that aluminum can bind to estrogen receptors in a woman’s cells, potentially damaging the cell’s DNA and triggering abnormal growth behavior.
A recent Keele University study confirmed that aluminum salts can get into the breast tissue through the use of antiperspirants and deodorants, and they are more concentrated in the area of the breast where cancer is proven to be more likely to develop – the upper outer quadrant, where deodorants are applied.
Aluminum is widely recognized as a toxic metal, particularly in the context of Alzheimer’s disease, having aluminum absorbed into your body at any location can ultimately absorb into the bloodstream and affect the build up of aluminum in the brain.
NOTE: It is important to point out that no research has been carried out into the long-term health implications, negative or not, of repeat applications of aluminum salts to the underarm area
Parabens have been shown to mimic the action of the female hormone estrogen, which drives the growth of tumors in many breast cancers. It cannot be claimed that parabens ‘cause’ cancer, in the same way that estrogen itself does not ‘cause’ cancer, but some scientists believe that, if the DNA of a cell is already damaged and predisposed to cancerous growth, the presence of parabens could accelerate this.
As well as the possible link with breast cancer, synthetically produced parabens and aluminum have also been found to cause skin irritation or allergic skin reactions in those with sensitive skin.
