Sure we’ve all seen those infomercials with the ab-rollers and the fitness models claiming that you can get a six pack in less than 10 minutes per day, but is there really any truth to this?

With all of the confusion out there regarding getting a six pack, I’ve decided to cut straight to the chase and let you in on the truth about how to get six pack abs. This is no hype, no BS and certainly no internet marketing scheme. I’m simply going to present you with the facts and let you in one the 3 secrets that the supplement companies don’t want you to know about getting a six pack. Here we go.

Secret #1 – You Don’t Need Ab Rollers

Many marketing companies on television want you to believe that the only way to get a six pack is to do endless counts of ab exercises and crunches each day, but this is simply completely false.

In fact, doing ab exercises will not give you abs at all; it will simply strengthen up your core and might build some muscle around the abdominal region. But as far as giving you a ripped six pack, it’s simply not going to happen.

Secret # 2 – Abs Are Made In The Kitchen

Nutrition is a very overlooked factor if you want to get a six pack and most people pay no attention to it. I’m sure you’ve heard the saying “abs are made in the kitchen” and there is much truth to this.

Getting a six pack is all about your diet. If you’re eating doughnuts, cookies, candy, cake and ice cream, then you’re not going to get the ripped set of abs you’re looking for.

You need to clean up your diet and eat things like whole grains, lean proteins, healthy fats, green leafy vegetables as well as a variety of fruits. These foods are all nutrient dense, high in essential vitamins and minerals and are what you need to be eating if you want to get a six pack. Of course, this isn’t the only part of the equation.

Secret # 3- You Have To Eat Less

Probably the most important factor to getting those six pack abs you’ve always dreamed of is to eat fewer calories than your body needs each day. Many people will try to tell you that you can simply do an endless amount of crunches and the fat will melt right off, but nothing could be further from the truth.

This is known as the spot fat removal myth and it is one of the biggest marketing scams known to man. The myth of spot fat removal essentially states that you can workout a particular muscle group and the fat will melt right off. For example, many people believe that doing bicep curls will give them hard and defined biceps and when it comes to your abdominals things are no different.

When it comes to getting a six pack, there is really only one thing that will get you there – a calorie deficit. You have to eat fewer calories than your body needs each day because this is the only way to lose weight. Unfortunately, you can’t decide where the fat comes off on your body. Instead, your body will lose fat all around your body and eventually it will come off of your abdominal region (typically last). This is why getting a six pack is so difficult and cannot be achieved in less than 10 minutes per day. You’re not going to see fast results; you’re just going to have to be patient.

Secret #4 – Cardio Is Your Friend

Cardio helps to increase your metabolism and burn additional calories, which will result in more fat being lost as well. Although any type of cardiovascular exercise will be sufficient if you want to get a six pack, briskly walking on the treadmill or jogging at a measly pace is simply not the way to go about doing things when it comes to getting the fat off of your body.

Instead, you should be doing HIIT (high intensity interval training). HIIT is great because it allows your body to burn an incredible amount of calories in a very short period of time, while also causing something known as “the afterburn effect”. The afterburn effect will accelerate fat loss and keep you burning calories all day long, even after you’ve finished your workout.

When you do HIIT, you’ll basically be sprinting for a minute (80-85% intensity) and then resting for about 30-45 seconds, then repeating. This can be done on the treadmill or simply around the block, it doesn’t matter. The main thing you need to focus on is that you’re going hard for a minute and then resting for about half the time you ran hard for. Then repeat!

After all, if getting a six pack was as easy as doing X number of crunches per day, then I’m sure we’d see a lot more people with a tight mid-section across America.
