There’s something we can all do to protect our skin so that it doesn’t age before it should, and it’s all about routine. Nobody wants more telltale wrinkles than they have to, but getting into a good skincare routine is all you need to do to keep them at bay. It’s never too soon to start, and if you have teenage children it’s worth teaching them about how best to look after their skin. If you yourself feel like your skin is starting to age more quickly than it should, then it’s time to review your skincare habits. Just how much thought do you put into your skin? You need to look after it, so here is a list of beauty regimes that you should implement:
Cleanse, Tone & Moisturize
The single most important thing you should do every day is to cleanse, tone and moisturise. This should be done first thing in the morning and last thing at night. Wash your face first, and then use a good quality cleanser and sweep it across your face with a cotton pad. As for the toner, this should be good quality too – dab it on after cleansing. Finally, finish with a top notch moisturizer. In the morning this should be a light day cream with a high SPF, and in the evening it should be an intensive moisturising cream that will work its magic while you are asleep.
Never Go To Bed with Your Makeup On
Leaving your makeup on before you go to bed is a big mistake. It will dry your skin out and infect your pores, meaning you are far more likely to develop spots and blemishes. Make sure every trace of makeup is removed before your head hits the pillow, remembering to follow make-up removal with your cleansing, toning and moisturising routine. You will wake up looking fresh faced and ready to start the day! On the subject of makeup, remember that less is more. Too much makeup can look trashy, and it also blocks pores and stops the skin from breathing. Only ever apply the bare minimum for great-looking skin.
It’s important to sweep away dead skin cells with an exfoliator at least a couple of times a week. Use a brand that you trust and always exfoliate after cleansing. Scrub gently in circles with a cotton pad or face cloth in order to correctly carry out the exfoliation. If you have highly sensitive skin you may need to find a product that is hypoallergenic.
A Few Don’ts
Don’t use tanning salons and sun beds as this will age your skin really quickly. Staying out in the sun is a bad idea too – whenever you are outside your face should be protected with a high SPF cream in order to keep it looking young. Sun is the biggest enemy in the battle against wrinkles, so no matter how much you enjoy sitting out in it, always make sure that you are properly protected from its harmful rays.
It’s really easy to get into a good skincare habit – so there’s no better time to start than right now!
