6 Tips to Help You Shed the Holiday Pounds

Christmas just passed us a couple of weeks back. That means you’re carrying a little extra holiday weight into the New Year. That’s a bad start already. You’ll have to shed those extra pounds if you want to get anything done this year. Remember, you don’t have to pretend to be Santa Claus until December, so you can get rid of the sack that is your stomach. Here are a few tips to help you lose your holiday weight without getting a gym membership.

Go for a Morning Jog

Go for a Morning Jog

You don’t need a gym membership to lose weight, but that doesn’t mean you don’t have to put in any effort whatsoever. I’m afraid you can’t achieve anything in this world without hard work. If you find it difficult to keep up with the treadmill you can always run on your own. Make a playlist of your favorite songs and listen to them while jogging at the break of dawn. If you find that a bit too lonely you should get a partner to run beside you. If the running doesn’t burn your calories the talking definitely will.

Drink Loads of Water

If only people drank as much as they ate, then they wouldn’t be struggling with weight issues. And by drinking I mean water. Water is a fat flushing drink that removes the excess calories from your body. If you think about it, drinking water is the easiest way to lose weight. It’s recommended that you drink at least 8 glasses of water daily. However a few extra glasses won’t kill you. Not only will it hydrate your skin, it’ll also help you lose weight. That’s two birds down with one stone, wouldn’t you agree?

Eat a Light Dinner

You’ve already eaten more than you need during the holidays, so it’s time to take it easy. You don’t need to starve yourself with an extreme diet. There are better ways to lose weight. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, so take that opportunity to load up on the calories you need for the next 24 hours. However, dinners are a completely different story. You generally go straight to bed after dinner, without any strenuous activities in the middle. Hence, you should keep your dinner light, because all that food just contributes to your obesity through the night.

Pick a Sport

If working out isn’t your thing then you need to burn your extra calories another way. How about picking up a sport? You like watching sports on TV, don’t you? So why not play one? It’s definitely better than sitting on the couch all day yelling at the players on TV. It’s time to get out there and play some tennis. You may not become Roger Federer, but at least you won’t turn into Jabba the Hutt. Each sport burns a certain amount of calories, which brings you closer to your goal. Losing weight and learning a new sport at the same time sounds like a good deal to me.

Shake a Leg

Who said you can’t lose weight and have fun at the same time? Whoever that person is, he gives the worst fat loss tips ever. You need a little imagination and creativity to turn an arduous task such as weight loss into fun. It’s not as difficult as you might think. Take dancing for example. You can lose tons of weight while dancing. That means that every time you go clubbing you’re losing weight and enjoying yourself at the same time. There are worse ways to lose weight, but I’m sure there’s no better way.

Do Some Yoga

Do Some Yoga

Yoga may be a bit tougher than a regular work out, but it’s definitely worth it. The different asanas can tone your body and make it flexible. Look at all the people who do Yoga. Their bodies look like Michelangelo’s statues, sleek and divine. Instead of taking a soul searching trip to India, do your soul searching at home with Yoga. It’ll save you the trouble and the airfare. For all the Star Wars fans, Yoga is just Yoda with a ‘g’.

Begin the New Year with a new you. Shed your old self and your old weight by following the tips mentioned here. I’m sure with our help this year will be more prosperous for you than the last one.
