5 Reasons You Don’t Need a Gym to Stay Healthy

As much as there are plenty of reasons for you to shell out that hefty joining fee and monthly membership for your local gym, there are just as many reasons not to do so. Don’t get us wrong, we are completely pro-exercising and healthy living. We just don’t think it should cost you your arm and a leg to get fit.

Unfortunately, most people who join gyms nowadays do so just to make a socioeconomic statement. You probably know of a friend who has a standing gym membership to a state-of-the-art facility that they visit only once or twice a year, if at all. As for the regular Joes and Janes, having to pay hundreds of dollars each month in gym membership fees is yet another reason not to exercise.

They say that early man was a fit as they come. Funny thing because they did not have state-of-the-art gyms back then. The whole world was their gym. This dynamic remains true today. There is a myriad of ways that you can exercise and stay healthy without necessarily having to join a gym. All you have to do is get a little creative, commit yourself to achieving this goal and by all means, getting started right away.

Do not wait until the weather is right or until the kids go off to college. Getting fit and healthy is something that you should prioritize. With the kind of lifestyle diseases that we suffer from each day, you cannot afford to lead a sedentary existence anymore. With that in mind, here are three good ways to which you can stay fit and healthy without joining a gym.

1. Ditch the Excuses

The thing about exercising is that it is very easy to cite reasons as to why you shouldn’t do it:

– It’s too expensive

– I do not have the time

– I do not have the right outfit for it

– My pedometer doesn’t work

– I will get started right after the holidays

– I have blood sugar level issues

This list goes on and on. For most people, it is the fact that they don’t quite have the money for joining a gym within their budget that steals the day. Because they do not have this money, they figure they will put off exercising until such time as they can afford it.

Consider this: your health will not wait for you to afford a gym. If you do not take good care of yourself your body will deteriorate at a faster rate each day.

2. Start Walking

walking burns calories

Before you even dream about getting those six shooter guns implanted onto your biceps, you need to get your lungs and heart working properly. There is a big difference between being buff and being fit. Buff could just be as a result of your being heavy and muscular. Being fit means that your lungs and heart work, at the very least, almost as well and as seamlessly as they should. The only way to achieve this is through aerobic exercises. One of which, incidentally, is walking.

3. Find Ways to Combine Recreation & Exercise

exercising is fun

One of the main reasons why most people abhor exercising is because they look at it as a chore. It is yet another thing they do not like doing that sucks up all of their free time. If you want to get motivated about exercising and staying fit, you are going to have to change this outlook. One of the best ways to do that is to turn exercising into a recreational activity.

4. Build your Own Private Gym

build your gym

If you have the money for it, you can actually build your own private gym right at your house. All you need is to buy a few key gym equipment. Pick the best treadmill for home, buy a few dumbbells, maybe get a bench and then specialize on training using just your bodyweight. You will be surprised to hear the immense benefits of planks, a simple exercise that trains your core. From toning your belly to reducing back pain and increasing your flexibility, not to mention improving your balance and posture, there are just some exercises that will keep you fit and healthy without necessarily having to join a gym.

It takes a little creativity and a world of determination to stay fit and healthy even when you join a gym. You will, arguably, require a lot more of that determination if you choose to do it without a gym, but if you can find ways to combine your exercises with fun everyday activities and diets, you will find that staying healthy isn’t really that difficult.
